Vegan Doner Kebabs: A Healthier Twist On NYC Street-Meat

Vegan Doner Kebab

A Unique Meatless Doner Kebab Recipe

Being a healthy eater doesn’t mean missing out on guilty pleasures like say, a doner kebab. This traditional Turkish street dish usually contains beef, lamb or chicken sliced from a rotating spit, and topped with goodies. If you want to skip the meat, but not the taste, check out this vegan recipe (and our other vegan recipes).

Our friend Ayinde Howell AKA master vegan is back and showing us how to do these kebabs the vegan way. Before you start, make sure you have all of your spices: cumin, salt, cinnamon, curry powder, black pepper, coriander, and oregano.

Then, begin by pulverizing your onions. After that’s done, in a bowl combine the onions with lemon juice and olive oil. Next, add your spices into the mix. This will be your marinade.

As that soaks together, get your seitan ready. Be sure to slice it very thin. Evenly coat the meatless meat in the marinade. Allow this to sit for at least an hour. Next, it’s on to cooking the meat in just a little olive oil.

Finally, it’s time to assemble. Warm up your pita bread, add the seitan, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, pickles and soy yogurt.

It’s so delicious and easy to make. You’ll get all the incredible spices and taste of the original dish, but in a healthier way!
